Abstrakt:
In the paper the author basing on cognitive linguistics concentrates on referential functions of determiners and quantifiers in Polish and German. Determination is considered as always marking a referent as definite and constitutes the global determinant phrase. Quantification might be understood as constituting the intermediate layer, not marking neither definitness nor quantity. Thus it constitutes the innermost layer, the nucleus of determinant phrase.
